Custer, South Dakota

Custer, South Dakota

Painted buffalo statues, bison burgers, an amazing museum – Custer, South Dakota has it all. The city is rich in history, and all a visitor needs to do to learn about it is duck into the 1881 Courthouse Museum. Here, you will learn about George Custer, who gave the city its name (though not for the reason you’d think), the expeditions into the Black Hills, the Native Americans who called the Hills home, and the stories of the developing settlement, which include plenty of gun-slinging outlaws and sheriffs. And if you are inclined to see one of America’s most famous sights, it is a short drive from Custer to Mount Rushmore.
