Famous for its bridge, its views, its beach, and its downtown, Coronado is a tourist destination in the best sense of the words. Its resorts and restaurants are highly-rated, and its beach made the Travel Channel’s list of top ten beaches in America in 2008.
Coronado is an island, connected to the mainland by an isthmus, and it helps form the San Diego Bay. From there, the view of the Pacific Ocean is as magnificent as anyone could hope. Visitors can drive across the San Diego-Coronado Bridge or take the ferry to reach the island. The entire city is just under eight square miles, not including the parts that are underwater. Guided tours are available by bike, segway, and kayak.
Coronado is home to the Hotel del Coronado, which has been open since 1888 and was once the largest resort hotel in the world. Having attained such a venerable age, the hotel has even acquired its own ghost.
