TOP 5 PLACES TO EAT: Hot Springs, AR

As a team, we can say we do many things well, but we are definitely champs when it comes to sniffing out the best places to eat wherever we go. We have an eye for stumbling on places you just can’t find anywhere else and may or may not have a running list of the best onion rings in America.

Let me tell ya, for a small town a little off the beaten path, Hot Springs knows how to feed a weary traveler. Here are our top 5 fave places that we discovered while gallivanting through the park.

Seriously, if you are a fan of vinegar based BBQ, you can’t get much better than McClard’s. They’ve been basting ribs since my grandparents were young! Don’t skip the ribs here…trust us. They are worth getting messy for!

I think I was thirteen the first time I had Rocky’s Corner Pizza and I am still on the hunt for one that rivals it. I haven’t found one yet.

The Ohio Club is the oldest bar in Arkansas. It first opened it’s doors in 1905 as The Ohio Club Bar and Casino and the gambling and bootlegging scene in Hot Springs brought a number of famous hoodlums through its doors. Today the restaurant is known for its burgers- particularly the Ohio Club Burger. Definitely take your hunger when you go, cause these meaty delights are giant! Remember the covert list of America’s best onion rings? I can neither confirm nor deny that The Ohio Club serves some up that make that list. Maybe you should try them for yourself and see what you think.

I mean whether you are a fan of root beer or not, just the novelty of eating the nation’s first brewery in a national park ought to pique your curiosity. If it is more powerful ale you are looking to imbibe, the Surperior Bathhouse Brewery has quite the selection of house brewed offerings.

There seems to be some debate among the team as to whether Gelato is ice cream or not, so I looked it up. For your geeky pleasure: “Gelato is the Italian word for ice cream. It starts out with a similar custard base as ice cream, but has a higher proportion of milk and a lower proportion of cream and eggs (or no eggs at all). It is churned at a much slower rate, incorporating less air and leaving the gelato denser than ice cream.” – thekitchn.com

It doesn’t really matter because Dolce Gelato has offerings that make your taste buds sing, so WHAT it is really becomes a moot point.

My favorite. Fat Bottomed Girls Cupcake Shoppe. I was super bummed when their NW Arkansas location closed down, but know this- skip dessert at all those other places and grab yourself one of these cupcakes. My personal favorite is the lemon lavender, but in case you are feeling the need for a higher octane treat, grab yourself an icing shot. You will not regret it….or maybe you will…when you are miles from Hot Springs, and can only think of these delicacies.
